Here For You
What We Believe
We are a faith church. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things unseen. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God, and so we have a very strong focus at Living Word in teaching the Word of God. The Bible says it is impossible to please God without faith (Hebrews 11:6).
God’s righteousness comes to us by faith in Jesus Christ. We are righteous. Our righteousness does not come from being perfect, but it comes for free because of Christ. He earned it, and gave it to us for free. It is a gift. We believe in the Grace of God. We are saved by grace through faith. Grace affords me the promises of God, the covenant of God, the inheritance, the blessing, authority, and even more. What does all this mean? Let me say it this way, often we think that if good things aren’t happening, it’s because God must be mad at us. Then people will try and earn God’s blessings on their life by trying to change how they act. This is an old covenant kind of thinking. In the old covenant I will only be blessed if I am good enough. When Christ came and died He changed all of that. He was good enough, and now we get what He earned because He took our punishment. Now God is pleased with me by faith in Christ, and His goodness and grace teaches me to “say no to ungodliness.” Now I begin to live right because He has blessed me! Grace says that my sins are forgiven. God still loves me, and I’m still going to heaven. God does not hold His promises back from me just because I mess up. His promises are yes and amen. Is this a license to sin? Of course not. Sin has its natural consequences. We still reap whatever we sow, both the good and the bad. The more of God’s Word you have in you and begin to follow, the better your life is.
Faith is great, but faith without works is dead. You can pray for a great marriage all day, but if you are not loving your spouse, well guess what, you won’t have a great marriage. But if you work on being a great spouse, and you pray, now your marriage will really start growing. Grace is awesome, but if you go around doing messed up things, your life will be messed up. God didn’t make the mess, but if you ask, He can help you clean it up. God loves me even in my sin. Now I should hear the Word, believe it, and put it into action, becoming the best me that I can.
Love and Acceptance
We say just BE U, meaning we love and accept each other just the way we are. There is no need to change in order to gain that love. We don’t offer you a bunch of rules, but instead, a relationship with your creator. We believe real change will come from the Word of God being taught, and the Spirit within you bringing about the right changes at the right time. For now we want you just the way you are.
The Bible is God’s Word to all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because it was inspired by God, the Bible is truth without any mixture of error and is completely relevant to our daily lives. God’s Word is to help us have a better life. We call it an instruction booklet for life. It is full of life, wisdom, power, purpose, results, and rest!
God is Good
He is all powerful, all knowing, ever present, unchanging, completely worthy of our trust. God is love. He is loving, compassionate and faithful. Think of what a great father would be, now think about how amazing your father God is. God would never make you sick, or take your stuff. When Jesus died he paid the price for sin in full. In Isaiah 54 God has sworn now not to be angry with us ever again, and has told us that when an attack comes against us, He didn’t bring it, but He will help us win. It is Satan who has come to steal, kill and destroy. Sure in life bad things happen sometimes, but we know that God sent His son so that we could be more than overcomers in Christ. Let the redeemed of the Lord say “Our God is a good God… all the time!”
We cannot earn our salvation, we can’t be good enough to get to heaven. Salvation is a gift from God and cannot be earned by our own efforts. The Bible says you are saved by grace through faith, that way no one can boast (Ephesians 2:8-9, Galatians 2:21). God sent His son to die for our sins. If you believe in your heart that Jesus died and was raised from the dead, and you say this with your mouth, then you are eternally saved (John 3:16). So if you have done some real messed up things, and you believe in Jesus, you are saved and are going to heaven. Being saved doesn’t mean that you now have to act perfect or you will somehow lose what Jesus has given you. We work through life, make mistakes, and guess what... you are still saved. Our mistakes will probably have a consequence here on earth, but all Christ has paid for, including where you spend eternity, does not change.
Christianity is a Relationship
Christianity isn’t a religion, it is a relationship. We believe that every believer should be in a growing relationship with Jesus. We do this by being planted in the House of God, through prayer, doing our best to become more Christ like, and learning more about God through hearing and reading His word.
Church is Important
The Bible says that those that are planted in the House of the Lord will flourish. Statistics show that church greatly improves life. Church is here to charge you up, build you up, give you hope, and to energize you for what God has for you. Come on in, worship God, pray, listen to the word being taught, and have some fun with your church family. Church is the pillar of truth in life, and the word preached gives you the tools you need to succeed. Church is a great start to awesome week.
We believe that strong families make for a strong life, a strong church, and a strong community. Our families are built upon our foundation in Christ. Your family is your first church. For this reason we ask that people put Christ first, then family second, and ministry third. This is why we offer marriage classes every weekend, marriage counseling, marriage seminars and retreats. We also offer parenting classes every weekend, and our own nationally recognized Train Up a Parent program. Your kids are taught the importance of honoring their parents from the time they are born until the time they leave the High School group. Much of our effort is poured into strengthening the families using God’s principles.
Reaching the Lost
Ultimately we are here to disciple all nations, which starts with wininning people to Christ. There are many things that can help someone, but the greatest gift of all that brings the biggest change is the gospel of Jesus Christ; it can change someone’s eternity. We do this as a church by being a light unto the world. We win the world through love. The Word of God strengthens our light as it creates in us results. For instance, when your marriage is successful, others around you will press in to find out why. The Word of God grows us, and we in turn have the opportunity to grow the church. We can run advertisements for church on television, or use social networking, email, or direct mail to tell the community of our events, but the real impact happens when one person simply invites another person to meet Jesus and to come to God’s house. Statistics say that seventy-five percent of all people who are invited to church will come.
Be Respectful When There are Guests in the House
When we have guests to our house my family acts differently around the dinner table than normal. It’s because we don’t want to scare them away, or have them think we are weird. Paul talks about this at length in I Corinthians, as the church there was being a bit strange in the service, and there was no order. We want to be a church that is welcoming and comfortable for our guests, one that is godly and in order. Saturday night and Sunday morning we have our visitors showing up to dinner. For this reason we ask that the church respect the unbeliever by not being a distraction to the service. Our Sunday night and Wednesday night services often will move into extended worship and offer much more flexibility in length and expression.
Speaking in Tongues
Ah yes, we just brought it up didn’t we? Praying in tongues is useful in evangelism as used in Acts 2, and in our personal prayer. Praying in tongues is power that comes with the baptism of the Holy Spirit, it is the first fruit of that baptism, and is the first thing Jesus brought us following His resurrection. You do not have to pray in tongues to be a Christian. Still, you may want to consider reading the Bible about it. We will teach on tongues every year, and help bring clarity. Jude 1:20 says “Building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in tongues.” It’s our most holy faith. When I speak in tongues I have no idea what I am saying, which is good because my doubts, my unbeliefs can’t get in the way. You ever feel like something is not right, but you have no clue what it is? This is what you do then. Your spirit knows. What’s also great is the devil has no idea what you are praying. It’s like the Navajo talkers in World War II. The enemy could not decrypt our secret messages once America began to utilize the Navajo language to transmit messages. The enemy couldn’t react because they had no clue what we were saying. God knows that when we pray our doubts and fears get in the way, being God, He gave us a solution. You ever feel a little down or depressed? I Corinthians 14 says that speaking in toungues builds you up. It is like a Red Bull for the soul. You may not understand how it works, but you use a lot of things through out the day that you have no clue how they work. You don’t know how you cell phone sends your voice to outerspace and then finds someone else’s phone somewhere on the planet. But it works, so you use it. If you are interested in finding out more, come up front after any service. It is simple and it is easy and it is a powerful weapon.
